As of October 28, 2026, 239 companies have PFAS reports published in PRISM, Minnesota’s public reporting system. That is 12% of the 1,916 companies registered in PRISM. Of the 239, 99 (41%) listed at least one PFAS, amount, or function as unknown. 88% named a fluoropolymer such as PTFE.

We pulled every published row from PRISM’s public data feed and counted by company, not only by row, because one filer accounts for two thirds of all rows. Download the summary data (CSV).

How many companies have reported?

MeasureCount
Companies registered in PRISM1,916
Companies with published reports239
Published rows (product, component, PFAS, function)284,627
Products36,559
Product components121,549

Published reports are not all reports filed. MPCA said on September 16 that the data then published covered about 10% of reports received by the September 15 deadline. MPCA also granted more than 1,000 extensions to December 14. So most of the picture is still to come.

Reports vary widely in size. The median company published 34 rows, and 67 companies published 10 rows or fewer. One company published 187,425 rows, 66% of everything in PRISM.

How often did companies report unknowns?

PRISM accepts three kinds of unknown: “PFAS present but unknown at this time” for the chemical, “Function unknown at this time” for the function, and “present but the amount or concentration range is unknown” for the amount.

Unknown reportedCompaniesShare of 239
Any unknown9941%
Amount unknown7331%
Function unknown3615%
PFAS identity unknown3213%
Every amount unknown2310%

Row counts tell a different story because of the largest filer. Across all published rows, 52% list the amount as unknown, but most of those rows come from one company, which listed 68% of its own amounts as unknown. Without that company, 22.5% of rows have an unknown amount, 11% an unknown function, and 2.8% an unknown PFAS.

The amount is the field most often left unknown. A report can name the PFAS and its function and still be missing the concentration range.

Which PFAS appear most?

Fluoropolymers dominate. 210 of the 239 companies (88%) named at least one fluoropolymer, such as PTFE, FEP, PFA, FKM, or PVDF.

PFASCompanies
PTFE (under either of its two list names)161 (67%)
“Fluoropolymers” class entry51 (21%)
FKM fluoroelastomer (1,1-difluoroethylene and hexafluoropropene polymer)38 (16%)
FEP35 (15%)
VDF-co-HFP (FKM 1)35 (15%)
Methyl(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)silanone (fluorosilicone)35 (15%)
PFA24 (10%)
Potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate24 (10%)
PVDF20 (8%)

PTFE appears in PRISM under two names, “poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE)” (95 companies) and “Ethene, 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro-, homopolymer” (79 companies). Anyone counting PTFE reports should combine them.

What is PFAS doing in these products?

Counting each function once per company:

FunctionCompanies
Lubricating agent98 (41%)
Insulators86 (36%)
Other64 (27%)
Sealant55 (23%)
Flame retardant52 (22%)
Barrier46 (19%)
Surface modifier39 (16%)
Dielectric36 (15%)

Most of these functions point to purchased parts: wire and cable insulation, seals, gaskets and O-rings, lubricated mechanisms, and coatings. The data for those parts sits with suppliers.

When did companies file?

Most companies filed close to the deadline. 124 of the 239 (52%) first submitted in August 2026, and 106 first had data published in September. Extension holders file by December 14, 2026, so a second, larger wave of published reports should follow.

What this means for February 1

Every unknown in a published report is a question someone still has to ask a supplier. Minnesota Rule 7026.0080 requires manufacturers to keep requesting the data until it is known, and new information belongs in the update due February 1, 2027. For the 99 companies with unknowns, February 1 is a supplier chase, not a filing. MPCA’s leniency was for the first reporting round.

If you report, start with your unknowns. Sort them by supplier, ask each supplier by part number for the PFAS, CAS number, concentration range, and function, and keep the dated record. Our PFAS supplier declaration template asks for exactly those fields, and the February 1 update guide covers what triggers an update.

Method

  • Source. PRISM’s public OData feeds: vSearch for published report rows and vCompanyNames for registered companies, reporting period 2026, pulled October 28, 2026.
  • Counting. Companies are counted by PRISM’s accountable company ID. Products are distinct company, brand, and model. Components are distinct company, brand, model, and component name.
  • Unknowns. Amount unknown is PRISM range 9. PFAS unknown is “PFAS present but unknown at this time.” Function unknown is “Function unknown at this time.”
  • Fluoropolymers. Grouped by matching polymer names on the PRISM chemical list, plus the “Fluoropolymers” class entry.
  • Limits. Published data lags reports received, so these figures describe published reports only. Product and component names are as typed by filers. We do not name individual companies.

We will update this analysis after the December 14 extension deadline and after February 1.

TL;DR

How many companies have filed Minnesota PFAS reports?

239 companies have reports published in PRISM as of October 28, 2026, out of 1,916 registered. MPCA has said published data lags reports received, and more than 1,000 extension holders file by December 14, 2026.

How many Minnesota PFAS reports include unknowns?

99 of 239 companies (41%) reported at least one unknown. 73 (31%) left at least one amount unknown.

What is the most reported PFAS in Minnesota?

PTFE, named by 161 of 239 companies (67%) under one of its two PRISM list names.
